A little life update | Fall '22

Well, Happy New Year everyone! I was sitting here wondering when I would write my winter 2023 update when I realized I started but never finished my fall 2022 update. I have no idea where the time went…

In my previous Lil Life update, I talked about feeling like I’m ‘on the road to burnout’. However, I realized that there really was a deeper problem than work and stress; I just didn’t feel ‘right’… at all. In those moments, I made the decision to make sure I got the help and support I needed, and not wait for the New Year to take action.

I’ll fill you in on all of that in due course, as I dive a little deeper into female physiology, hormones, and training on the blog.

But meanwhile, go grab a cuppa and some cookies let’s catch up?!

Run

To be honest, I had a great fall running. I trained pretty well for Royal Parks Half Marathon in early October, which included a short trip to Inverness to run the Loch Ness 10k. However, after the half marathon, he needed much more rest than he had imagined.

So I focused on recovery, then building back as I thought about what I wanted to achieve for my personal running goals in 2023. During November I participated in Running For Justice with my fellow adidas runners LDN trainers where between us we ran 10k every day for 30 days.

“As an inclusive community, it is important for us, as coaches and captains, to show externally that we are fighting for the rights of our community and beyond by leading by example and having open discussions on issues of racial injustice.”

Coach Deo

I contributed 3 races a month (after a holiday in the first half of November) and decided that when I was back in shape (in 2023) I would love to contribute on my own.

I also made it my goal to complete the Leadership in Running Fitness course before the end of the year, which had started in April 2022. I managed to film the content I needed with the help of a fellow trainer and submit it, in time to even get my registration card sooner. of the new year.

Then, on the last day of 2022, I completed my 50th race – one of my goals for 2022 – and my busiest parkrun year with 25 events attended in total.

Ideas for career goals for 2023

Since it’s January, I might as well start thinking about what I’d like to accomplish over the course of the year. In addition to potentially participating in Running For Justice again, here are a few more things I’m considering:

  • constant weekly mileage (average 10 mile weeks in Jan/Feb)
  • train for a 5km / parkrun bp
  • volunteer 25 times in parkrun
  • complete the Running Fitness Coach qualification

Cycling

Fall meant the return of our laid-back Saturday morning indoor Zwift meetups, which served as my workout for the day or the perfect cooldown after a run in the park and catching up with friends.

In November, my Cycling UK’s 100 Women in Cycling 2022 feature was launched. I was so excited to share that (and I did it ahead of time in my previous life update, whoops!) – I’m in the Cycle Influencer category. My Beyond CC co-founder Alison Wood is also featured in the Community Champion category along with 98 other women doing their part in the world of cycling.

News also broke this month (January) that the one stop shop for women’s cycling, VeloVixen, no longer exists. Honestly, the news hit me hard; VeloVixen has been a big part of my two-wheeled journey since we discovered each other in 2014.

I really look forward to seeing business return in some form, and I know this isn’t goodbye to Liz and Phil, but more of a ‘see you later’. The image below is from one of the many photo shoots I’ve done with the VeloVixen over the past few years.

Cycling Goal Ideas 2023

Here are some specific cycling goals that I would like to achieve in 2023:

  • ride abroad (Mallorca, Costa Brava / Girona or Lanzarote)
  • complete tier 2 cockroach cycling coach award
  • complete RideLondon 100
  • PB my 10 mile time trial time
  • training for the 2023 cyclocross season over the summer
  • drive 8 Breeze rides

RECENT FEATURES:

  • I wrote an article on warming up for issue two of the official parkrun magazine. You can pick up a free copy from your local event or pay postage and have one delivered directly from the parkrun website.

Coming?

Although I have started the year with my traditional cold, I have committed myself to the RED of January. However, I don’t run every day; I’m focusing on some movement or active recovery, especially when I’m feeling down.

Other than that, I will be reaffirming my goals for the year as shared above and taking action to make them a reality.

How was your finale of 2022?! Any exciting plans for the next few months?
