A little life update | Spring Summer 2022

Is it me or is time speeding up? It’s been 4 months since my last update in February, talking about all things Winter and since then, well, a lot has happened ‘behind the screen’. I even managed to take two (last minute) trips abroad to Malta and Madeira… ironically when the UK had better weather than both of my destinations.

But working in London when the weather is nice isn’t half as much fun as vacationing in Madeira when the weather is nice, I promise you.

Go grab a cuppa and some cookies, let’s catch up?!

Run

Spring has finally arrived, which was great news for getting back out there biking and running again. I have struggled a lot to find consistency when it comes to running in recent years, but this quarter was a game changer, personally and professionally.

Adidas Runners LDN

In February, I announced that I would be joining the adidas Runners London (aR LDN) team as a coach and, so far, it has been the highlight of every week. I have been delivering running sessions with my fellow trainers and captains at Brick Lane and Battersea Park mainly, along with some holistic (core and recovery) sessions.

There was also Run For The Oceans in May/June where I hosted sessions in Stockport, a trail event at Kings X with Fleur East and the launch of the Solar Glide 5 (which is my current favorite running shoe) with a window pop up in Covent Garden.

Oh, and in collaboration with Greenhouse Sports, I’ve also been to a girls’ school to offer running-related sessions.

Leadership in Running Fitness

In April, I signed up for and completed (most of) the Running Fitness Leadership Award with England Athletics. I wrote it for the blog, but I still need to film my session and submit it for official approval, so stay tuned.

The course was super basic for me, but it was a great refresher and gave me a lot of new ideas for leading running fitness sessions, so spoiler alert, I recommend it if you get the chance.

Behind the screen

What brought me to Madeira was actually the opportunity to meet the amazing producer, Rebekka, from a project I worked on in late 2021/early 2022.

Due to the ‘vine, we couldn’t meet in person (she lives in Germany), but she was on her way to Madeira to speak at a creator conference, KeyFrame 22, and she asked if I’d like to attend.

It was pretty short notice, but I managed to get it to work. Less than a week after the invitation, I was on a plane headed for the Atlantic Ocean. Since I was at a creator conference, I tried to, you know, create…so you can see some of what I did on my Instagram.

My Google Creator Makeover

So the project we worked on was my Google Creator Makeover, which I had to keep under wraps until it went live. You can see the final video here:

And I think I covered the most important points when I shared this project on LinkedIn:

So proud to have been a part of this project…please watch the video…and note the parts you won’t see…Like the open and honest conversations I had with Rebekka Gorges about diversity and representation…

The diverse cast, both in front of and behind the camera…and the entire female crew 👀…which shouldn’t surprise us, but it takes a lot of work to make it happen…

Not to mention, we navigated this project through covo heights!

So honestly when I look at this…it’s not even about “making money while I sleep”…it’s about the story behind each and every one of us who played a part in bringing this to life!

What about cycling?

My main event, my target event, the RideLondon Essex 100, came and went at the end of May and I’ve been taking a bit of a break ever since. I did a 10-mile time trial about 10 days later, but everything that could have gone wrong (mostly technology), went wrong, and I didn’t improve on my time from last year.

summer cross

The official cyclocross season ended in January, but the schedule for the upcoming season is now available along with some summer events. I saw that the Central League was looking for someone to host one of the summer races and I put[Beyond CC]in front, so now that’s something I’m looking forward to in July!

Put July 20 on your calendar and come to the event to run or cheer and soak up the good vibes. If you are also present the day before I will need help setting up the course so please get in touch if you can help us with this.

I also bought my 2022 Liv bike, the latest version of the Brava, so I’m really looking forward to taking it for a spin over the summer. It’s lighter than my old one and I’ve also opted to use two-sided mtb pedals for the first time, which means I’d better spend some time practicing skills and getting back into shape.

RECENT FEATURES:

I was featured in a UK Pinterest campaign called Black to Z, which featured 26 revolutionary black businesses and creators. See the complete table here.

online classes

If, as they say, a change is as good as a rest, that means that a rest is also good, right? I decided to take a break from my current online schedule to give myself some time to figure out ‘what’s next?’

Some of the classes will continue as they are part of the Beyond CC membership, an online community for women, run by women to help them get stronger both on and off the bike.

I also started working on making Beyond Strength a standalone show that would sit alongside the Rollin’ With My Foamies Prehab series that I have in the works.

So stay tuned to see what I come up with…

Coming?

Well, in a matter of days, I’ll take care of the ASIC London 10km Again, that was my first post ‘vid crowd-participation event, last year. Although I am in a much better place with my running, I am not in PB shape so I will look to enjoy the atmosphere and use it as a kick off for my half marathon training.

I recently sat down and planned out what the next few months would look like training-wise for me and this half marathon in October. I have scheduled 3 races a week, which may be ambitious, but I will try well.

KISE 10 Years Celebrations

Julio sneaked up on us…at one point I had 12 months to plan, then 6 months to plan, and now, here we are. All I know is that I am 100% not doing another bike raffle!

I have some challenge ideas jotted down and I think I’ll sit down as soon as possible to come up with a plan for the month to make sure I celebrate as much as possible.

We’re halfway through 2022 now, how’s your spring going so far? Any exciting plans for the next few months?
