Look, I know how important it is to wear sunscreen every day of the year, regardless of how hot or sunny it is outside. Despite being fairly well-informed about the risks of venturing outdoors without sunscreen, I’ve long despised SPF-infused lip care products. This, of course, is not ideal, considering that the lips can develop cancer just like any other area of the skin. The problem is, I have always found SPF-infused lip balms and lipsticks to have less than stellar texture and pigmentation, not to mention the absolute worst taste, until now. Fortunately, Supergoop! is single-handedly changing the lip sunscreen narrative.
Enter: the Supergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick ($24). These gorgeous yellow tube lipsticks are everything I want in a UV protective lip product and more. They glide on smoothly, impart stunning color that doesn’t dry out, and don’t have a horrible aftertaste. That have? A very refreshing, slightly minty, nostalgic scent that brings to mind images of my grandmother’s Clinique lip tubes in the 1990s, in the best way. Oh, and they also have adorable names. (It’s like “Hey Y’all” and “Obsessed” were made for me, even the colors are my favorite shades.)
Logistically, the Suergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick is sold in five shades, ranging from red and orange to mauve and berry, all formulated with mint flavor for scent and flavor, as well as natural peptides, shea and mango butter, and rosehip. Oil to hydrate and soften the lips. And of course, they’re packed with the mineral SPF 30 in the form of zinc oxide.
As with traditional face and body sunscreens, Supergoop! Lipshade 100% Mineral SPF 30 Hydrating Lipstick is meant to be reapplied. As such, apply it before you go out in the sun and then every two hours, or after you take a dip (or sip). FWIW: Even when I reapplied it, I found that this conditioning lipstick looks lovely, with no pilling or dry edges. Suffice to say, it is the best SPF lip care I have come across.
