Get the best flavors of summer with this delicious and refreshing watermelon smoothie recipe. Made with frozen watermelon, fresh mint, and Greek yogurt, this smoothie comes together quickly in the blender and will fill you up all morning.

I’m going to let you in on a secret: I start every morning with a shake not only because of the health benefits, but also because it’s an easy way to introduce nutrients to my daughter.
As much as I try to avoid eating treats, I have a little girl who thinks for herself and that includes what she puts in her mouth. It also means that giving him fruits and vegetables (and even yogurt!) is a struggle. So every morning I make a smoothie and we share it. The rest of the day she eats as much as I can get her to eat, but I don’t stress because I know she drank her morning smoothie.
This watermelon smoothie is on regular rotation. As you can see below, watermelon has many health benefits, but it’s also a great way for me to add extra calcium and protein.
Let’s dig in!
Watermelon Health Benefits
Watermelon is surprisingly high in nutrition. Here are some reasons to include it in your diet:
- It is a great source of hydration. – Although watermelon does not contain as much fiber as other fruits, it is a fantastic source of water with approximately 92% of its content coming from water (source).
- Contains antioxidants – Including vitamin C, carotenoids, lycopene, and cucurbitacin E, which help fight free radicals that build up over time in the body (source).
- It has a high content of vitamin A + C. – 1 serving of watermelon contains 15% of daily vitamin C and 5% of daily vitamin A. Both are important for immune function, skin health, and eye health (source).

Ingredients in this Watermelon Smoothie
- Watermelon – Seedless watermelon cubes are the key to this recipe. Ideally, your watermelon is seedless for the best texture, but work with what you have!
- greek yogurt – Personally, I like to use vanilla yogurt, but you can use plain Greek yogurt or whatever flavor you prefer.
- Fresh mint – watermelon + mint is the perfect taste of refreshing sweetness, but you can omit the mint if you like.
- almond milk – Or any other milk or non-dairy liquid.
- Ice – this helps thicken your smoothie. You can also freeze your watermelon and omit the ice cubes.
How to make this watermelon smoothie
Making a watermelon smoothie couldn’t be easier! Just add all the ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately for a fresher taste.

Easy trades + substitutions
Use frozen watermelon – Adding frozen watermelon will make this smoothie thicker! Just cut your watermelon into cubes and then freeze it for at least 3 hours.
add other fruits – add a cup of frozen berries (strawberries and blueberries work great) or tropical fruits like mango or pineapple for a tropical twist.
Add lime juice – for a bit of zing add a squeeze of lemon juice
turn up the protein – Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein, but if you want to add more, you can always add a scoop of protein powder.
change the liquid – Not a fan of almond milk or allergic to nuts? Feel free to swap in some coconut milk or another non-dairy milk or drink (coconut water would be great too!).
skip the mint leaves – if you don’t like mint, you can leave it out or replace it with another fresh herb like basil.
mix some vegetables – looking to sneak onto some greens? A cup of spinach or kale works great! You may need to slightly increase the fluid.
Can you make this smoothie in advance?
Personally, I would not make this smoothie ahead of time and would instead drink it as soon as it is mixed. However, if you want to do a little prep, you can freeze some Greek yogurt in an ice cube tray, and then store all the ingredients (except the almond milk) in a ziplock bag in the freezer. Just add the frozen ingredients and almond milk and mix as directed.
