CrossFit Games 2023 workouts revealed

Once again, the Games will put athletes to the test.

The 2023 CrossFit Games should be another worthy test of strength, stamina, versatility and athleticism for the world’s best CrossFitters. When the sports community descends on Madison, WI, August 1-6, 2023, they too will be ready to challenge the obstacles that stand between them and ultimate glory.

On July 19, 2023, the CrossFit Games organization began revealing some of the workouts planned for the six-day flagship contest at the Wisconsin State Capitol. For those familiar with typical CrossFit workouts, some familiar elements are likely to come into play. However, a few surprises to keep the respective athletes in each division off balance shouldn’t be out of the question. Justin Medeiros is the two-time defending men’s singles champion, while the legendary Tia-Clair Toomey voluntarily vacated the women’s throne while she focused on her first pregnancy.

As the competition approaches, breaking muscle will continue to update this overview of upcoming workouts as they are gradually revealed by the CrossFit organization prior to competition. breaking muscle will provide available details accordingly.

Here’s an up-to-date list and overview of the workouts at the 2023 CrossFit Games revealed so far:

helena

Date and Time: To be determined

A CrossFit staple, the organization hasn’t announced the exact format for “Helen” during the 2023 Games, but said athletes will “do a version of the baseline workout, Helen.” As a reference workout, the circuit is familiar to competitive CrossFit athletes as well as recreational lifters in any CrossFit box. “Helen” focuses on a fast-paced series of runs, kettlebell swings, and pull-ups. As of this writing, it is unclear what day and what time Helen will take place during the Games.

Helen’s standard training is below:

Three rounds per time:

  • 400 meter race
  • 21 kettlebell swings (50 pounds/22.7 kilograms for men, 35 pounds/15.9 kilograms for women)
  • 12 pull-ups

Cross Country 5K

Date and Time: To be determined

The running concept may seem quite simple and straightforward. While it is currently unclear where or when precisely this will occur, most of the CrossFit Games 2023 competitors will run five kilometers (3.1 miles), presumably for time as one of the training sessions in the competition. However, let’s assume that the Cross-Country 5K is something like “The Capitol” training from the 2022 Games, which incorporated a slightly longer distance run. In that case, it may occur somewhere around the grounds of the Wisconsin State Capitol and present some type of heavy, awkward-to-carry implement. In the 2023 edition, Lower Extremity Adaptive athletes will perform five kilometers on a SkiErg machine instead of running.

Olympic Weightlifting Total

Date and Time: To be determined

In what seems to be a familiar sight at the CrossFit Games, athletes will perform movements fully adherent to Olympic weightlifting within this workout. Competitors are already familiar with the jerk and snatch. This workout will combine the two and will demand a lot from your explosive strength. As the name suggests, scores are likely determined by the total weight lifted.

The CrossFit Games 2023 will test the physical preparation and mental toughness of everyone on the contest field. Hoping the catalog of events keeps athletes on their toes should probably be the baseline.
