Maybe it’s just the *way I live* but you can tell where I’ve been by looking at the rims of the glasses in our house. She left a small trace of lipstick wherever I consume liquids. And as much as I love bold lips, I don’t like having to reapply lipstick every hour!
Last month I did some research on some highly rated long-wear lipstick products. They get a bad rap for drying out and are generally not pleasant to wear, but since I haven’t tried one since the early 2000s, it was time to see what advances have been made in formulations since then.
I bought a variety of lipsticks ranging in price from $11 to $39. Unfortunately, where I spent the most cash was also where I was most disappointed. The moral of the story is that you don’t always get what you pay for when it comes to long lasting lipstick! (For the record, the two I tried that I didn’t like, mainly because they didn’t stay on my lips very long, were these: Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick and Armani Beauty Lip Power Long-Lasting Satin Lipstick. .)
Here are my three favorite long-wear lipstick products.
1. NYX Shine Loud Long Wear Liquid Lipstick (shown above)
Price: $11
This product was featured in several articles I read and was also a bestseller on Amazon. I bought a muted red and my favorite nude in a mauve shade.
Colors purchased: Rebel in red and life goals
Tastes: You can wear this lipstick with or without the glitter on top. You can also layer it by applying, blotting, and reapplying. I use this method to create a more natural look with my red lipsticks and found that it helped me get the same long-wearing, stained look that I wanted.
I don’t like: This would be quite difficult to apply without a mirror.
How long does it tend to stay on your lips? 3-4 hours
2. Kuckian Cosmetics Liquid Velvet Supreme Matte Lipstick
Price: $18
This product was recommended to me AFTER I purchased the other two on this list. It had so many positive reviews that I thought I’d give it a shot and I’m so glad I did.
Color purchased: IF MY
Tastes: I LOVE the hue and opacity of the formula. The product came with three different brushes for very detailed application (although I haven’t found the need for them yet).
I don’t like: Honestly nothing!
How long does it tend to stay on your lips? up to six hours
3. Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink Liquid Lipstick
Price: $10
The great reviews on various websites helped make this product on the list of lipsticks I tried. While it does have a couple of minor drawbacks, I like it overall!
Color purchased: Velvety
Tastes: There are really pretty shades and the price is great.
I don’t like: I am not crazy about the scent, as I tend to prefer scent-free products. It’s also a bit sticky.
How long does it tend to stay on your lips? 5-6 hours
