As I was planning my last bike trip, I knew I had to consider ways to take care of myself on the road. It’s been a while since I’ve used a curcumin supplement, but I know there are benefits for those of us who like to stay active.
Cortiba Health, which makes Yellow Root, approached me with the opportunity to try their liquid curcumin supplements, and the timing was perfect.
What is curcumin?
Curcumin is a bright yellow chemical (curcuminoid) that is the active ingredient found in turmeric. Turmeric has been used in the Eastern world since ancient times as a spice, in medicine, and to color and flavor food. (2).
Curcumin has a higher potency than turmeric alone, so supplementing with it is a great way to reap the benefits. However, it is poorly absorbed during the digestion process.
Curcumin benefits for active people
Turmeric has been shown to have natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Specifically, curcumin has significant anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, chemoprotective, anticancer, and gastroprotective properties. (2).
Studies on curcumin also reveal that it can help lower cholesterol, improve blood sugar control, reduce anxiety symptoms, and many other positive effects.
Some scientists suggest that the underlying problem in all of these conditions may be excessive inflammation, which can lead to a host of health problems.
For active people, one of the biggest benefits is that it can help control exercise-induced muscle inflammation and soreness, which can improve your recovery and performance. (1).
How I used yellow root liquid curcumin

Cortiba Health Yellow Root Liquid Curcumin Supplement uses innovative technology to increase the solubility of curcumin, making it more readily available to the body, meaning you only need to use a fraction of the dose to achieve the same effects. .
This also puts less stress on your body, especially your liver, which is the organ that would have to remove the buildup of insoluble circumin.
Yellow Root Liquid Curcumin Supplement Formulations
All Yellow Root Curcumin formulations are vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free. They are available in various sizes, from 5ml bottles (pictured) to 15ml or 30ml bottles.
D3 Yellow Root Drops

The first of the formulations I have been using is this one, fortified with essential vitamin D3 to support healthy bones and joints. Having spent a lot of time indoors recently and limited sun exposure during the winter months, the importance of supplementing vitamin D to stay well is highlighted.
Low levels can cause fatigue, pain, poor memory, and difficulty concentrating. This could affect your athletic performance.
You’ll find 0.93 mg of curcumin and 25 IU of vitamin D3 in every drop. The recommended dose for people over 18 years of age is 2 times 4 drops per day, which I add to a little water 30 minutes before a meal.
B12 Yellow Root Drops
Yellow Root B12 formula helps support metabolic balance and maintain a healthy metabolism. Vitamin B12 is also a “risk” nutrient for vegans, because it can only be obtained from animal products.
You’ll find 1.25 mg of curcumin and 0.18 mcg of vitamin B12 in every drop.
Yellow Root Drops A
The Yellow Root A formulation has been fortified with Vitamin A to support immune function.
You’ll find 0.62 mg of curcumin and 100 mcg of vitamin A in every drop.
my final thoughts
I have definitely seen and felt the benefits of curcumin supplementation, especially when it comes to being active. Rather than wait until I’m feeling bad, injured, or training hard, I would continue to take supplements as a way to reduce the chances of that happening.
Yellow Root’s liquid version of curcumin is a convenient way to supplement, as well as being superior to other curcumin supplements in terms of absorption. In addition to supporting healthy immune function, the brand itself uses certified organic ingredients and the products are packaged sustainably.
